Description

What is Panacur 150?

Panacur 150 treats gastrointestinal parasites from animals’ stomachs and intestines. It is used for veterinary purposes and is intended for use in the infestation of cattle, buffaloes, goats, sheep, etc., containing harmful gastrointestinal nematodes, tapeworms, lungworms, such as Ostertagia spp, Haemonchus spp, Cooperia spp, Trichostrongylus spp, Nematodirus spp, etc.

It contains Fenbendazole as its primary ingredient. It is an ANTHELMINTIC therapy and a useful and effective animal deformer. This broad-spectrum anti-parasitic medication is highly effective and useful against a range of internal parasites for treatment and use in animals.

How does Panacur 150 work?

  • It is used for the treatment of internal parasites in animals. It works with the help of its primary ingredient, Fenbendazole, which is better known as benzimidazole anthelmintic.
  • It interferes with the all-round energy metabolism of the harmful parasites and ultimately causes them to die.
  • It is available in multiple dosage forms and can be consumed as granules, tablets, or liquid suspensions as per the comfort of the animals.
  • Dosage and treatment work as per the animal that is to be treated with the Fenbendazole dose and according to the weight and type of parasite invasion.
  • Fenbendazole leads to the distortion of the parasites’ cellular structure. It performs by binding to the tubulin, an essential protein required for the growth of the parasites, cell division, and overall structure.
  • The disruption leads to inhibiting the parasite and its glucose absorption ability. It causes the depletion of energy and the parasite’s death.

Uses of Panacur 150

It is also used in the treatment of gastrointestinal worms in cats, but its use in cats is ‘off-label’. It is also categorized as an ‘extra label’ in a few animals, including cats. It contains Fenbendazole and is used for the protection and prevention of:

  • Giardia
  • Hookworms
  • Tapeworms
  • Roundworms
  • Lungworms
  • Whipworms

Dosage and administration of Panacur 150

Panacur Dosage for dogs and administration of this medicine requires attention and constant follow-up. An ideal dose of 5mg of Fenbendazole Panacur 150 is recommended per kg body weight of animals such as pigs, goats, sheep, cattle, and buffaloes showing signs of infestation and invasion from the gastrointestinal nematodes as well as lungworms. It is also used as a popular treatment for dogs.

  • Panacur can be used for cats and dogs, and it is also easy to use in kittens or puppies. However, Panacur for puppies also needs administration.
  • Adult cats and dogs: 1 ml per kg of the body weight for cats and Panacur for dogs, in a routine manner.
  • Kittens and puppies: 0.5 ml per 1 kg of the body weight in kittens and puppies to be used for the next 3 days at the animal’s age of 2, 5, 8, or 12 weeks (it is to be used for kittens and puppies under 6 months of age).
  • The ideal dosage amount for pregnant dogs and cats is 1 ml per 4 kg of body weight, and for cats, it is 1 ml per kg of body weight.

Giardia and other worm infestations: A treatment of 1 ml per 2 kg of animal’s body weight (of cats and dogs) is considered normal and should be used for the next three days.

Lungworms in dogs: The ideal dosage amount for Panacur fenbendazole is 1 ml per 2kg of body weight for seven days.

Lungworm in cats: Dosage amount of 1ml per 2kg for treating lungworm infestations in cats, to be used for roughly 3 consecutive days.

The typical dosage of Panacur for horses can be anything close to 5 10 mg per kg of the weight of the body, and it should be given in a single dosage.

  • Increased dosages may be required to treat worm infestations in cats and adult dogs affected by the Giardia infection. For three days, 50 mg of fenbendazole per kg of the animal’s body weight can be administered.
  • 50 mg per kg is also ideal for treating, preventing, and controlling Oslerus (Filaroides) Osler in animals such as dogs. It should be treated each day for approximately seven days. In a few cases, the course may be repeated.
  • 50 mg per kg is the ideal dose for cats to treat and control lungworms identified as Aelurostrongylus abstrusus, and it should be used for the next three days.

It is important to follow the exact dosage and duration prescribed by the vet doctor. Even overdosing on Fenbendazole may cause a few side effects that can be avoided with the proper dosage action. Even less dosage can lead to under-dosing, which may fail to eliminate or help eliminate harmful parasites.

Period of withdrawal

The period of withdrawal varies from one person to another and according to the infestation in animals. It is usually 8 days for meat (in larger animals) and approximately 14 days in Panacur for goats and sheep (it is a widely used Panacur sheep wormer). It is four days for milk.
